Thirty Steps to Forward is composed of Seth and Gretchen Powers, a brother and sister folk duo residing amidst the tall trees of Michigan. Their feet are constantly tapping to the beating of birds’ wings and the sounds of their father’s music. Through their strings and voices, the kindred duo strive to sing and play songs of the delicate heart. If you incline your ear you might hear the hand of a girl and boy plucking out the vein of modern music and replacing it with that dusty old heart.
Thirty Steps to Forward’s second full-length album, Hinterland, is a collection of songs revolving around the tangled wilderness of human frailty.
“Composing “Hinterland” was an experience that at times led us through honey, briers, and late night sessions in a cozy dimly lit room. The twelve songs have a slight theme to them, on man and nature and how they have more in common than they might think. Along the way we fell in love with these songs, and we know that there are those of you who will see them in the same light we do.”
